FAQ

1. Where does the name "Purple Door" come from?

When the founders of the festival were trying to come up with a name for the festival, they had a long list of possible names. There was a bible study that one of the founders of the festival attended, and at this bible study, there was a door. The door was purple. The name Purple Door made it on the list, and the name stuck.

2. Why is my favorite band not on this year's line-up anymore?

When the bands are booked for the festival, it is the desire of the staff of Purple Door that every band is able to make it and play in their respective time slot, as planned. Sometimes, plans change. Recording schedules change, other opportunities come up, travel plans don't work out. If a band is taken off the roster for Purple Door, it is because the band changed their plans, not because Purple Door does not want them. Inevitably, there are one or two bands who cannot make the festival after they have agreed to play. That is why we always have the disclaimer, "Artists Subject to Change" on our materials.

3. Why don't you have (fill in the blank with your favorite artist) play?

There are a limited number of time slots to fill at the festival. There are literally thousands of bands interested in playing at Purple Door. We try to pick the bands that we hope people want to see. We try to get input from individuals on who they would like to see. We have the survey in the festival program, we get lots of emails with suggestions, we check out new bands, we try to have long-standing favorites. What it comes down to is that there isn't room for everyone. Some bands we try to get and their schedules won't allow it. You would be amazed how many band members get married in August. Weddings have been a contributing factor in a lot of the scheduling difficulties in the past. Basically, we do our best to get the best line-up possible.

4. How can I get backstage passes or autographs?

Backstage access is reserved for Artists and Festival Staff requiring access to do their jobs. Artists will often use their time backstage to prepare for their performance, so having extra personnel backstage can be distracting. A lot of times, artists will spend much of their time mingling in the crowds, visiting with attendees and fellow artists, and spending time at their merchandise table. It is important to respect the artists' time and only ask for autographs if they are at their merchandise table or specifically signing autographs. It is inappropriate to ask for autographs if they are enjoying a show or hanging out with friends and family.

5. Can we bring food into the festival?

Food and beverages are available for purchase on the festival grounds, however, you are also welcome to bring in coolers and food of your own. You are also welcome to bring blankets and chairs to make your concert experience more comfortable. We do ask if you choose to grill, that you do that in the parking area near your vehicle, and it must be in a contained grill for safety.

6. What about the skatepark?

We are very excited to have a skatepark available at Purple Door. Protective gear and a signed waiver are also required to skate or bike on the park. If you are under 18, a parent's signature is necessary. You can print out a form here to have your parent sign and bring it along to the festival. Download Form.

7. Can my pet Chihuahua come to the festival?

Pets are not allowed at the Purple Door festival. We ask that all animals stay at home for safety reasons for festival attendees and the pets.

8. I love wearing my spiked leather jewelry, can I do that at Purple Door?

We do not allow any kind of spikes to be worn in the crowd at the festival. In years past, the most frequent injury that was recorded in our first aid area was puncture wounds from others wearing spikes in the audience. Since that time, if we see spikes on people coming in the gates, we ask they remove them and leave them in their car. If they make it in the festival and are spotted in the crowd, they are confiscated and can be retrieved at the office at the end of the day. Your best bet would be to leave them at home. Thank you for your consideration, we do this for the safety of everyone at the festival.

9. Will the festival sell-out? Can I get my tickets at the gate?

Tickets are available at the gate. This is a festival. It is virtually impossible for the event to sell out. You can save money by purchasing your tickets in advance. Go to tickets page.

10. Can I buy a ticket for just one night and/or day?

It has always been our hope that attendees will view the festival as a complete event. Therefore for simplicity we offer only all event tickets. There are no tickets available for only one night or one day.

11. Is there skiing at Purple Door, it is a ski resort, right?

Don't laugh, this question has actually been posed to us. Yes, Ski Roundtop is a Ski Resort, and yes, they do make their own snow, however temperatures must be at least below freezing, preferably 26 degrees or lower to make snow. The snow making jets are used to spray water on attendees interested in cooling off periodically throughout the day.

12. Can I play paintball?

Revolution Paintball is open at Purple Door. They recommend reservations to play if you plan on playing at Purple Door (there is a separate cost).

13. What is the policy on smoking/drugs/alcohol?

Anyone found under the influence of, or in possession of alcohol or drugs will be escorted off of the property and/or turned over to law enforcement.

14. My friends are coming separately, can I leave a ticket at the gate for them?

Please plan ahead. Things are very busy and hectic at the front gates. The staff cannot hold tickets for others in your party if they are coming separately.

15. Can I leave the festival and come back later?

Upon entry into the festival, you will receive a wristband that will serve as your re-entry pass if you choose to leave the grounds. Be sure not to lose your wristband, there is a replacement charge if you lose it. You will also have to pay a new parking fee each time you come and go.

16. How do I get there?

Directions to the festival can be found at the directions page.

17. Do I have to pay for parking?

There is a $2.00 per car fee for parking. Festival go-ers are encougaged to car-pool or plan to remain on grounds during the festival. Each new re-entry will be charged $1.00. The goal is to keep traffic down so that all attendees can get in to the festival and enjoy it in a reasonable amount of time.

18. How's the traffic getting into the festival?

Our staff does a great job getting people in as fast as possible, but please be prepared to wait. Our new traffic pattern makes parking completely separate from the Walk Up Gate where tickets are now purchased. Please stay in your cars and wait for direction from the people working in traffic/parking. Be sure to have any forms filled out and have your tickets ready for when you do reach the ticket line.

The Art Gallery at the festival is intended to be a showcase for Christian artists to share their faith in any number of mediums and skill levels. It is our hope that the gallery is a stop on every festival attendees trip to Purple Door. For information on how to be part of the festival Art Gallery visit our myspace .

21. What if I get hurt? Is there First Aid?

We have security personnel at Purple Door whose most important job is to keep the attendees of the festival safe. However, accidents do happen, so Purple Door is equipped with a First Aid Station with qualified staff to treat minor injuries that may occur at the festival. If you are under 18, you need to have an adult sign a permission slip before you can be treated. If you are not accompanied by an adult,

be sure to bring along a parental permission waiver, just in case. Download Form.
